Anime Review #2: NieA_7

File:NIEA 7 vol4.jpgName: "NieA_7" or "NieA under 7"
Directed by: Tomokazu Tokoro
Based on: a doujinshi by Yoshitoshi ABe
Number of episodes: 13
Rate: 6/10
Summary: The anime is set in Enohana and Tokyo where a poor student girl Chigasaki Mayuko has to deal with the struggles of life. She attends a cram school, works and lives at the bath house with NieA, an under seven alien with no antenna. In Mayuko's society aliens, human-like creatures with long ears and antennas, have become part of everyday life. The "Mothership", a spaceship that has brought them to Earth, no longer seems unusual to humans.
The situation the aliens of the society are in can be compared to the situation of present-day immigrants.
Characters:
Mayuko and NieA
Chigasaki Mayuko is a hard working, polite and self-conscious student. She often wonders about the simple things that make up her life. Compared to the other students of the cram school that she goes to, the is very reserved.
Genzo
NieA is the character I really hated throughout the whole anime! She's annoying, selfish and everyone loves her for an unknown reason. She doesn't do anything in her life and assumes that Mayuko is responsible for her. NieA doesn't seem to notice her roommate's kindness and instead of helping her, gets her into trouble.
Chada
Genzo and Mayuko used to know each other when they were little. He's very sweet and helps Mayuko a lot. He really likes her and remembers all the details about her childhood.
Chada Now this is my favourite character! He's the funny weirdo of the series. He has a funny Indian accent and is obsessed with curry. Although it is not exactly clear whether he is Indian or not. Some characters say that he's just a dark-skinned alien with a turban rapped around his head who has probably never been to India. He organizes alien-meetings the purpose of which is eating curry. At some point in the series he opened up his own bath house and used strange leaves (that looked like marijuana) to attract customers. He wasn't sent to jail only because he was an alien and claimed that he didn't know what it was.
Chiaki
Chiaki goes to cram school with Mayuko. She loves alien "culture" and knows more about aliens than anyone else. She loves NieA and visits Mayuko just to see her. She could be compared to those who are very interested in the immigrants' countries' exotic culture.
Chie
Chie is an independent and mature primary school girl who helps her father Shuhei around his restaurant. She looks after her childish father.
Kotomi
Kotomi is the owner of the Enohana bath house. She's determent and never wants to give up her business.
Karna
Karna calls herself an "upper-class" alien. She hates NieA and fights with her all the time. She even started a curry war at one of Chada's meeting.
Overall impression: A funny, enjoyable anime. Unfortunately the music introduction is absolutely terrible. I had to rewind through it because it was just unbearable. I would recommend it to anyone who likes drama and comedy or just wants to have a good laugh.
Curry wars
"Let us commence the tasting!"
enjoy thess collages of Chada xD

Anime Review #1: The Sunday without God

I decided to increase the popularity of my blog by doing anime reviews at least once a month.

Name: "The Sunday without God" or "Kami-sama no Inai Nichiyōbi"
Directed by: Yuji Kamazawa
File:Kami-sama no Inai Nichiyōbi volume 1 cover.jpgMusic by: Hiromi Mizutani
Number of episodes: 13
Rate: 9/10
The anime is set in a fictional world that God has abandoned 15 years ago. People stopped dying and giving birth. Even if their bodies were severely damaged, they would continue living their lives as "the dead". After some time, their bodies would rot and they would start to loose their human characteristics and personality. Before leaving Earth, God has created mysterious creatures called "gravekeepers". Only the gravekeepers could burry the dead and put them to rest.
The main character, a 12-year-old girl Ai Astin, is the gravekeeper of her village. Since her mother died when Ai was only five, she lives with Tony and Anna who take care of her. One day Ai discovers that all the villagers were shot by an immortal man called Hampnie Hambart who ends up being her father. He explains that all the villagers were actually dead. Since Ai has nowhere to go she continues the journey with her "new" father. Hampnie accuses Ai of being a fake gravekeeper since real gravekeepers appear out of nowhere and have no emotions. He introduces Scar, a real gravekeeper with beautiful purple hair. The three of them come to a conclusion that Ai is half gravekeeper, half human (she was conceived three years after children stopped being born).
Hampnie gets killed and Ai continues her journey with his childhood friend Yuri Sakuma Dmitriyevich. Her goal is to save the world.
Kiriko Zubereska, a 15-year-old boy with blue hair, is found asleep at the back seat of Yuri's car. He is from Ortus, the city of the dead. Ai says that she wants to see the city and the four of them decide to stay there for a few nights.
Ulla is the princess of Ortus. She is also known as the Idol of Murder since whoever she touches or looks at immediately dies. Kiriko is her teacher. Ulla doesn't know about her special power since everyone in her city is dead. When Ai tells her that, she isn't very surprised since she knew that everyone was trying to hide something from her.
Ai is forced to go to an unusual school for children with special abilities. One of her classmates is blind, but can "see" the world using sound, the other can breathe underwater. The students are not allowed to leave the school even when they become adults. They decide to escape.
Alis, Ai's classmate, tells her about the world of Class 3-4 that was frozen in time. Yuri, Scar, and Dee (a ghost-whitch) decide to help him save his small world. They arrive into an abandoned city and enter the "frozen" world through a portal. Ai becomes a member of Class 3-4 and discovers the strange events that caused time to stop. Dee tells her that she has been destroying all of Alis's clues so that he never gets to save the world of Class 3-4. She says that 15 years ago she fell out of the window to her death and the whole class wished for it not to happen. Their wish came true and nobody noticed that the time loop went on for many years. If Alis was to save the world Dee would die...
Since the anime ends on a cliffhanger it leaves you thinking and analyzing the story. It brings up a lot of philosophical themes and makes you wonder about the idea of the existence of god. It shows that everything (events, people, etc) has a good and a bad side to it and how simple things can lead to serious consequences.
The story line is very interesting to follow although some of the events don't have an explanation or reason.
I would recommend it to those who are deep thinking and enjoy fiction and supernatural stories.

Listening to music, creeping people out

School was fun today. Especially chemistry. I wish Yasmin was there with me because I couldn't stop laughing, thinking about our inside jokes. (Message to Yasmin: YOONIversity)
After school was just awesome! I went to town with my new friend Rosa. We listened to dramatic music and wandered around the city, pretending to be in a movie. We took some pictured with our school iPads. Here they are (the quality isn't that good):
Rosa being "all emotional"
Look at my awesome speaker! It has the power to make you feel like you're in a movie!
This isn't just a random blob in the lake -_-

Life is Beautiful

It's been a while since my last post. Sorry!
I'm enjoying every single day of my life because life is so amazing! Especially Sundays! Because every Sunday I sing in the church choir and I love it! After church I usually spend some time at my favourite square in town (in front of the Lutheran Church) and listen to music. If you see an idiot walking around randomly and smiling at everything while listening to weird music on her speaker.... Yup, that's me! I probably look like a retard but it's so much fun! Such simple things can make me so happy! Now I can't wait till Sunday because Yasmin is coming to church with me! I can show her the things I do every Sunday.
School is good so far. Although Art is a very serious subject this year. The subjects I quite enjoy are History and Chemistry. The teachers seem nice. (I'm probably going to hate them all by the end of the year...)
I wish I could describe everything and everyone in detail, but unfortunately this blog isn't private.
