I wrote gay fanfiction for my IGCSE exam

Yep, the title says it. Now I can cross it off my bucket list!
I thought I'd pick the descriptive task on the exam because I can never think of a story, but this year the topic was perfect! I literally wrote "thank you, Cambridge" on my paper. So the story that I wrote was about Dan and Phil from youtube and how Dan had a flashback (yes, examiner, I know you like those) to when he was on his way to Manchester to meet Phil. I also included a paragraph where Dan questioned his sexuality and couldn't admit to himself that he was gay. Deep. And then I described how beautiful Phil is (ah, I've lost count of all the things I compared his eyes to). At the end of the story, Dan finally has the courage to confess his love to Phil and they kiss.
At least, I didn't write smut, okay? xD
Hey, if the examiner is homophobic then too bad. It's their problem. Because you shouldn't be!!

My first IGCSE exam

Ah... The moment when you can't tell whether that noise is coming from the construction workers nearby or is part of the music you're listening to.
So I had my first IGCSE exam yesterday and I guess I was supposed to be all nervous and stressed out but... *starts singing Mystery Skulls* I do-o-on't really give a damn yeah~
The first exam was English and it went somewhat well. I'm not going to jump to any conclusions from what I've written because I can never tell whether I got the right points in my English summaries. It's a shame that they don't really teach you English at school nowadays. Everyone just assumes that you speak English so writing articles, interviews or summaries is common knowledge. Oh well. It's a shame that such an important subject is never taught in school properly and is taken rather lightly.
My first proper exam was today and it was History. And... I was late. My laziness doesn't know boundaries. On my way to school I got hungry so I bought myself a snack and, without even looking at my watch, continued walking slowly and calmly. My teacher was outraged and I told her that I didn't have an excuse because I couldn't be bothered to make anything up about "traffic" or "public transport delay". Luckily, I never needed the ten minutes I missed and finished the paper quite early.
I actually enjoyed the exam (which I guess is weird) because HISTORY IS LIIIIIFE!!! I was sitting there, engulfed in all these historical events, debating the importance of the Depression in Hitler's rise to power and questioning appeasement like a bo$$. I used the dollar signs ironically, don't punch me! I picked questions on the Treaty of Versailles, the Cold War and Nazi Germany. Just thought I should write it down in case I forget.
Physics paper 6 was suspiciously easy. You didn't have to know the formulae! My whole life was a lie! Before the exam, Dasha and I had pizza which was amazing!
Anyway, exams are really chill. I think I've forgotten how to stress, which is a good thing. I'm going to study for tomorrow's Bio exam so bye and have a nice day!

20 Feb 2015

This week went by so quickly!

So this weird sketch is about how Dasha and I read out our amazing story in front of the class. That was fun!
I also drew phanart uh... did you hear any of that? No, I think it was the wind...
Dasha and I left school straight after lunch because who needs PSHE and Careers in their life anyway?
I've noticed quite a strange thing about the town that I live in. Spring always comes very suddenly when you least expect it.
I can't wait to finish school and move to another city. I need change in my life!

Passage based essay on Shakespeare's "The Tempest"

This is the first time in my life I got a solid A for my English essay! I think it would be quite useful for those who are looking for inspiration online (like I usually do). It is based on Act 3 Scene 2 starting when Caliban says "Why, as I told thee, 'tis a custom with him,/I' th' afternoon to sleep: there thou mayst brain him...". Here it is:

In Act 3 Scene 2, Caliban, Triculo and Stephano are plotting to overthrow Prospero. In
this rather comical scene the reader is exposed to a never-seen-before side of Caliban.
Throughout the play Caliban was portrayed as a savage native who uses rude language and
insults. In this passage, however, it can be seen that Caliban is not as uneducated as he might
seem at first.
Caliban makes a speech that could also be seen as a monologue, telling the others how he would
like the plan to be carried out. It introduces a different side of Caliban. In this sense he can no
longer be seen as an educated fool, but is rather looked at as a scheming man who is thirsty for
revenge. The aspect that stands out the most is Caliban's language. Instead of cussing and using
insults Caliban suddenly uses more sophisticated language. He calls Miranda a "non-parail"
which is a very unusual thing for him to say because has never complimented anyone in the play
before.
Caliban's use of language is not the only concept that stands out in the passage. Caliban's ideas
are also superior to those of his companions. He has thought ahead and can now be seen as
someone who is very scheming and revengeful. He explains Stephano and Trinculo that books
are Prospero's source of power. "Burn but his books; he has brave utensils" Being the least
educated character of all, he was the only one who has thought of the idea of getting rid of the
source of Prospero's power before getting rid of Prospero himself.
Caliban's plot to overthrow Prospero echoes an event that took place earlier in in the play. In
Scene 2 of Act 1 Prospero was telling his daughter Miranda the story of how he got to the island.
He said that his brother Antonio took his power and sent him there. Luckily, Gonzalo put books
in the boat Prospero was travelling on. Thanks to them, Prospero managed to gain his power
over the island. Despite Antonio's education, he could not think that his brother's books were so
important. Caliban, on the other hand said that it was the first thing to do in order to rid Prospero
of his power. “Remember first to possess his books; without them he’s but a sot, as I am”
Caliban's ideas and the language he uses show that he is much more intelligent than his
companions. Just by looking at the text the reader can see that Caliban's lines are written in
poetry form, while the others' are written in prose. This represents Caliban's knowledge
compared to the simplicity of Stephano and Trinculo's thoughts. Caliban thinks ahead of things
while Stephano's thinking is much more simple. He says to Caliban, "Monster, I will kill this
man. His daughter and I will be king and queen".
By expressing himself the way he does in the passage, Caliban wants to be seen as an intelligent
gentleman. It is a side he wants to develop and be respected for. The thing Caliban wants the
most is sharing and equality. He wants to be loved and respected. It can be seen that Caliban will
never fulfil his needs for he is constantly being looked at as a slave. Everyone judges him on his
appearance and not what he wants to be.
In conclusion, Caliban has a more sophisticated and scheming side to his personality. It can be
seen that in most ways he is more intelligent than Stephano and Trinculo, but he will never be
respected for this side of him since everyone sees him as a slave.

I found something!!!

Today I decided to write something again.
(Good job, Sonya! You have an English assignment due the day after tomorrow that you haven't even started! And you want to get an A in your marking period? Of course, you will!)
For inspiration I found some of my old stories and essays on my computer. I also took my old laptop that I forgot about and looked at some pieces of writing I did in 5th and 6th Grade. To my surprise I realised that I still have some of my old essays and writing assignments that I thought were good. They turned out to be horrible.... And I blamed my teacher for giving me a B-...? If I were her I would have given myself something bellow a D.
After reading my essays I started reading my creative writing stories. Holy crap those are scary! If I didn't know I wrote that I would have thought that the child who wrote that had issues! Just listen to this:
"You remember the day you left home. It was a cold November night when winter comes to power and plays with her white scarf, causing storms and hurricanes. Her hand reaches out for you to take you to a place where you feel like you’re on the other side of the mirror. You left the people you loved to love another place, without fighting.
One more sound and the ice will crack. There’s sadness in those eyes. You feel like they’re asking for something. The creature looks like an innocent child, looking for a place to hide from the big world. You think of kissing it, imagining how your lips would unite in an alliance of love. You reach out to grab the creature’s arm, but it disappears, leaving nothing behind. You turn around and find it behind you with its eyes wider than usual. It takes your arm and pulls you up."
What the hell was I thinking of back then?
My writing skills are very good, actually! How did I come up with all this stuff about winter's white scarf and the other side of the mirror? I like it, but it's just... So creepy and random!
I also realised another thing about my writing. I come up with such random names! Now I would never write a story about someone called Madeleine...
Before I had so many big writing projects. I started writing a story in 6th grade and I haven't finished it. I can't remember how I wanted to end it! It's a story about a girl who hit her head during a fire and lost her memory. She was called Sophie before and now, since she couldn't remember her name, she is called Amanda (random names strike again!). She goes back to school discovering that everyone is in love with her old self, but she doesn't remember being the girl she was before the accident. (Such a cool story line!) Here's a fragment from it:
"“Tell me more about Sophie,” I asked Lena. “I don’t remember myself being Sophie.”
“What do you want to know about her?” Lena responded.
“What did she like, for example,” I answered.
“She liked to think,” Lena said, thoughtfully. “She liked to think about how things work not only in machines, but in life. She even found an answer to the hardest question in the world: What’s the purpose of living. Sophie was clever – wise. We would sometimes come to her and ask what to do. She solved our problems. She was a psychologist for all of us. Everyone liked her.”
I thought about what Lena had told me about Sophie. It was like she was talking about someone else, not me. I’m not wise. I can’t solve problems like a psychologist. I wished I could.            “I feel sorry for myself now, really,” I pronounced my thought out loud. “I’m not like Sophie now. When I lost my memory I think I lost my wisdom too.”
“I feel sorry for you too,” Lena replied. “You would just sit there, look at the fire and say something that would touch my heart, that would make my eyes water. You loved to look at the fire then, look at those flames disappear into the air. It made me feel joyful, but also jealous. I thought why you chose Liz to be your best friend. Why wasn’t I your favourite?”"
In fifth grade I was more into writing dialogues. Reading it, I realised that I haven't used the word "said" once. Here's an example (some more random names!):
""I'm not a little girl like you, Sue. I think I have a better idea," she whispered. "It's private. Up to my room."
The children ran to Susan's room quickly. Susan locked the door, so nobody could get through.
"Do you know, what Mum locked in the bottom floor and why?" she asked in a low whisper.
"I really want to know," Sue whispered back."Let's go to the bottom floor and see," Susan suggested.
"When?" Andrew asked. "Aunt Katy and Steffanie are always in the house."
"Not all the time," began the girl. "When Mum's away and Steffanie's at her friends' we can go down there and nobody would see us.""
In fifth grade I thought my grammar skills were good too. Nope!

I hope you enjoyed reading some of my old stories as much as I did. So the morals (I learned) are:
1. Don't blame your English teacher for giving you a bad grade! You deserve it! She knows better!
2. Read what you wrote from someone else's point of view before saying that it's amazing!
3. Don't be afraid to change your writing style!
4. Writing in first person and in past tense is too easy (and too mainstream)!
5. Avoid the word "said" when writing dialogues (because it's too mainstream)!
(6. Use random names..... No... Don't, actually... Random names are random... Don't use names...)

My Bible got confiscated...

Look at the title of this post once again? Doesn't it sound stupid? I mean, at school, you can get your phone, iPod, etc. confiscated. But... the Bible?
This morning I brought my Bible to school to show it to Yasmin. We couldn't stop reading it. In English class we sat there reading and underlining interesting things we could find. Yes, I know, class isn't the right time to read something like that... But it's so interesting!!!
No one takes Computers seriously. So Yasmin and I continued reading. Mr Woodbridge asked us what the book was called. He took it and looked at the cover. His face: priceless!
"The Holy Bible," he said. "That's weird. Is it your new 'thing'? First, India, then the Bible?"
(Wow... Just because we make fun of the accent so much doesn't mean we are into "India"... Seriously!)
So he casually walked away with a strange look on his face...
As we continued, Mrs L, our computer teacher, appeared behind us. She took the book. The thought "hit" us and we couldn't stop laughing. We got our Bible confiscated!
After class, to avoid further problems, we rushed outside, hoping that Mrs L gave it to Mr Woodbridge. No. It was worse than that. At lunch we came back to the computer room to see if the Bible was still there. Miss D was standing at the entrance and asked us, "What do you, girls, want?" Not thinking how strange it might sound, I answered, "The Bible." We told her how it got confiscated. Honestly, I would rather get my phone confiscated. At least, it's understandable!
Of course, the Bible wasn't there, so Yasmin and I went to reception. We asked if we can talk to Mrs L. When she came out she told us that she is going to give the book to M Perron, our discipline advisor.
Shouting things like "She worships the devil!", "She's going to burn it!", "My Bible!!!" etc., we ran to the discipline office. We asked M Peron if he has the book.
"The B i b l e...?"
"I would be afraid to confiscate that," said Steve, standing nearby.
So Sonyasmin went back to reception to find Mrs Lemale casually walking outside. We followed her back to the office.
The three of them, M Peron, M B and Mrs L, were in the office for about 20 minutes. They were talking and flipping through the pages of the Bible... I think they just couldn't get over the fact that it was just a Bible with no hidden messages or notes in it! Steve walked by and saw us standing by the wall and said, "I've been working in this school for 10 years and this is the first time they confiscated a Bible."
"We're good Christian girls," we said. (Meh... Kind of hard to explain this inside joke...)
Finally, Mrs L walked out of the office. We knocked on the door and went inside.
"On page 1000something," said M Peron, "it says 'do not disrespect authority.'"
Wow... They used a quote from the Bible against us... Coooool.... *slow clap*
After going back and forth to the office and to class we finally got it back.
The moral of the story: don't read the Bible in class. Telling everyone the story of how you got it confiscated is very embarassing...

The faith of the world

Just for you to know I got my English essay back. Yes... The one about "To kill a mockingbird". I got a B- and threw it in the trash immediately. Haha.

Recently I have been really interested in religion. So now Yasmin and I are working on this project about it. We decided to call it "The Faith of the World". We are going to study four religions:

Christianity
It's all around us and it seems very interesting to study. I'm supposed to be Christian, but I know nothing abut it. I would also like to find out about the difference between the Orthodox and the Catholic Church.

Islam
I studied it a little bit last year and I don't know much about it. I have many questions about it.

Buddhism
Actually, Buddhism is a way of life and not exactly a religion. It seems very interesting to me.

Hinduism
It looks very interesting to study and it is very different from the other three. Most of the books I borrowed from the library are about it so I hope I'm going to have enough information.

The maximum time to study a religion is a month. (And a minimum is a week.) We're also planning on visiting different places (Cathedrals, churches, etc.) and maybe even libraries. We can also interview others and ask for opinion
Yesterday, I went to the school library at lunch and got six fat books about Christianity and religion in general. At home (instead of doing my history haha) I read some of them and wrote stuff in my notebook. I made a quick summary of the life of Jesus and what Christians are. Today I'm going to continue.
Wish me luck!

Back to school!

This time I was very happy and excited to be back at school. But let's take a step back and have a look at what I have done over the past few days.
On Friday Yasmin and I went to the mountains. Surprisingly, it was so hot and sunny you wouldn't be able to tell if it was summer or spring. The most exciting thing was the "hike". We went to a nearby forest and, instead of taking the usual path, decide to explore. After walking for what seemed like forever we got out of the forest. We were very thirsty and tired, crossed the river and bought two bottles of water in a restaurant. We were very proud of ourselves.
I spent the night at Yasmin's house and the next day we went to the cinema with Franny and Carolina. We saw The Croods.

Yasmin was skipping to English class and I was like "Chod my life! This kutiya is embarrassing me!" I didn't really mind having this class today. I showed Yasmin the drawing I did during my holidays. (Unfortunately, I can't publish it here.) It's about how we climbed trees, ditched assembly and how many things look like from our point of view. I find it very funny.
Computers was probably something I was looking forward to. I hate the class (if you can even call it that). I forgot what we were doing...
Lunch was calmer than usual and so was homeroom.
I made a couple of pictures in Photography class.

27 Mar 2013

I hate the day after my birthday... -_-

Don't you just hate it when you were waiting for something for the whole year and then it's over... I was so excited for the 26th of March and now it seems like it has happened a while ago.
Today was quite a fun school day. It was meant to be "open day" at my school, but no visitors came. Maybe I just didn't see them...
Throughout the whole period of Maths Yasmin and I couldn't stop complaining. We are doing circles and arcs now. It's boring itself, but in the morning it's just unbearable! I was repeating CML (that stands for Chod My Life) in my head... That's how horrible it was.
Yes, I did say that today was a fun school day. Doesn't look like it, does it?
At lunch Franny, Yasmin, Carolina and I went to the library. We took the elevator since we found out the code. Upstairs, there was an art exhibition that was kind of creepy. In the library Carolina showed us the school that she's going to next year. It's an old only-girls'-school in London. It has an American system and it's Catholic. Poor Carolina.... =(
The first period of English was horrible. Ms Wilson was substituting and we had to work in our books. I decided to use my time wisely and did my Maths homework instead. Luckily, Mrs Manchala came back for the second period and we read a poem that I forgot the title of.
When I was walking home with Belek I told him about "chod" and "madarchod" and "gaandu". He was just shouting the words out... -_-
Looking back it wasn't actually a fun school day... I don't know why I said that...

My grades are here!

So today I got my report card. Some comments made me laugh while others made me shout "what? That's not true at all!". Overall, I'm not satisfied with my results..... At all....
English: B-
Let's look at the bright side of it, first. At least it's not a C. I was expecting a lot worse. In the comment it said that 'Sofia has applied herself' and that I 'show interest in expressing my opinion'. How.....??? It also said that I 'made some attempt to develop and improve my written assignments.' The word 'some' makes me suspicious. What does it mean by 'some attempt'? And, of course the comment was ended with my teacher's favourite quote. 'She often does the minimum to get by.'
Fair enough. I deserve that.... :(
Maths: (grrrr! They spelled it the American way!) A-
The comment was only a sentence long. The last part of it is kind of strange though. It says that 'her concentration is not as intense as it could be.'
I'm generally happy with my grade.
French: B+
Yay! There's nothing interesting in the comment. It just says that 'there is room for improvement.' Well, duh! There's always room for improvement.
Science: A-
AnA-!!! How's that even possible??? The comment is written in French. The summary of it would be that I have to keep up the good work. Sorry, but I don't even know what I have done in this class!
Geography: B
It says that I have achieved good results on my tests, but I got really bad grades on my quizzes. Tell you what, those were 'pop quizzes'. I didn't even know about them.... -_-
History: B-
Wait... That doesn't even make sense. The same grade as English? In the comments, my teacher says that 'she has obtained good grades for both end of unit tests'. Now this is what I really hate! Some teachers write about 'good grades' in the comment section and congratulate you for doing well, but give you a bad grade. It said that I 'have failed handing in my last assignment about Louis XIV'. I couldn't do it for the same reason I couldn't do the English essay. I was very sad and emotional. We had so many graded assignments, but none of them mattered that much...
German: B+
I did well? Oh... That's good....
Art: B-
I knew that. The comments says that I 'can be easily distracted by those around me'. Sure.... It's the 'others around'.... -_-
Computer: bellow the expected standard
Now that made me laugh! It said that all my work was 'poorly done' and that I am 'disruptive in class'. First of all, my work is not poorly done! Putting nyan cat and Totoro on my presentation for no reason is.... Cool!
Let's skip dance, music and sports (I got a 'pass'! Not a 'fail'!).
CSL: expected standard
The comment made me discover so many new things about myself! I never knew I was a 'member of the group who displays a real interest in the subject'! No offense, but I don't give a crap about the subject... I 'listen carefully'. Wow! I listen??? I also 'make contributions'? Does this count saying that only native speakers should teach a language?
Homeroom/school commitment: A-
This is even more surprising! Actually, I 'always approach lessons with a positive learning attitude'! Oh really? So groaning and moaning and saying 'oh no! Kill me now! It's English next' count as being positive? I never knew... Also, I have a 'mature attitude'! So doodling random stuff in my agenda and laughing at stupid jokes now counts as 'mature'? Ok....

That brings my GPA to 3.15 (it used to be 3.29). So the average of my GPA is 3.22.... Not good...

13 Mar 2013

Oh no! It's snowing again!

Today we missed almost half of the day due to the CTP4 tests. We do them every year. I'm not really sure what they are for. At the beginning they told us that they are made to compare different schools so others would know what CDL's strengths and weaknesses are. Starting from last year they also use our results to find out what we have improved on. I don't think the results are true at all. On the practice one (yes, we also have 'mock' CTP4s) there was this one question about the perimeter of a shape. On my paper I calculated the right answer, but on the answer sheet I put it wrong. And now they're going to think that I suck at working out the perimeter of shapes....? The tests are multiple choice so you're able to guess. That makes it even more unfair. On the English (practice) one I guessed all the last questions since I didn't have time and Mr Woodbridge told me that I was very good at them.... -_-
English class was a little bit unusual since people from our teacher's history class were doing their presentations. The only thing I learned from it was that once upon a time there was a guy called Vasco who went to India and died of malaria...
Note about our history class: in our side of the grade there are four history classes: Mr Woodbridge's class (Yasmin' class), Mrs Manchala's class, Mme Roussel's bilingual class (my class) and an ESL class (Carolina's class). All of us are doing different things...
Yasmin's class was doing Islam at some point because I remember them drawing mosques. We've done Islam in seventh grade last year. A couple of weeks (or days....) ago Yasmin was doing a presentation on Joane of Arc. People from our history class also did presentations like this last year.
The other mainstream class, according to their presentations, is doing the explorers and colonies. Yasmin's class never did anything about that. My class only did a little bit on it. We only had to know that Christophor Columbus discovered America and stuff like that. We never went into details like the other class. I didn't even know that Vasco de Gama went to India.... Seriously.... Also, looking at what is written on the board after the class, they have learnt about the Renaisance quite a lot. We studied it too, but we did less than them.
So the bilingual class is studying Europe in the 18th century. We finished the Middle Ages in Autumn. After that, we did explorers and trade... While the other class is studying people going to India, we were focusing on Europe and Venice. We've done Renaissance, but after that we moved straight on to Marthin Luther and the different kinds of Catholicism. We just finished studying Louis XIII and the absolute royal power and now we're doing Europe in the 18th century. We haven't done anything on colonies and, looking at the book, we're not going to.
Well.... At least, the three classes are doing something similar. All of us, at some point, did Renaissance and Europe. But Carolina's class is doing the Mayans! WTC....? The Mayans? Carolina also told us that before they studied the Carabians....
After English we had French. In French class Niko, Joao and Vlad were throwing papers around and Mme Boisson got mad and M Peron came into our class. When he was standing there I started thinking about the role play (Yasmin will know what I'm talking about) and ended up sitting and smiling like an idiot.... Zoum!

My school books or how I learn to draw

I realised that most of my drawing skills develop during school. And no... I don't mean Art lessons. We never do anything in Art. I mean doodling. I doodle everywhere at any time. So today I'm going to share my 'art' with you, guys.
The class I doodle the most in is probably History. It started like this
And ended up like this
I also doodle in other classes. For example..... English!
That owl is so cute!!!!
I barely doodle in Maths. This is the only thing I found. And I think this is my favourite one!
Some of my drawing are complicated like the one above, while others just show how bored I was at the moment...
I don't doodle as much in my textbooks. Good, I don't rip them like Franny... -_-
My favourite thing is my agenda!!! Sometimes, I make it very nice...
Vacation!!!
We went on a field trip to Ardeche. This is a summery.
...and other times it is just random.
Every week has a fact. That week's fact was "Chess was invented in India in 600 A.D." so I drew it.
Mexican Hexigan or Mexacon Hexagon trying to teach you loci!
The song of the year!!! If you haven't seen it go on youtube and type in "the indian nipple song". It's amazing!
Song lyrics + purple!
By looking at my agenda you can see some of the events that happened that week.
Nyahaha! I love doodling!!! ^w^

What I expect my grades to be

The marking period ended so, hopefully, my grades will soon arrive.
I don't normally do this, but I just want to give myself a grade and compare it to my actual one that I will find out in the future. So let's start!

Maths I'm sure I'm getting somewhere around an A for this subject since I got a couple of 100% for my tests.
English Oh chod.... I think I'm getting a C or something like that. Our teacher told us that our essays will not count and I totally failed the rest. I still don't get why I got such a bad grade on my portfolio... =(
French Honestly, I have no idea...
Science B-? All my homework assignments were late and I got bad grades on them. Plus my test results weren't good either.
German I'm probably getting a B... Getting an A in German is impossible...
History I actually enjoyed what we were studying this marking period and I was very proud of my test results. I would give myself an A- or a B+.
Geography This class is always at the end of the day and I'm tired so I don't really pay attention to it. We had several pop quizzes that I failed and my test results are average, so.... B-...?
Art My skills are very good! I love art (not as a school subject)! I made my self portrait purple (!) and.... we weren't supposed to do it the way I did it. I didn't give my sketch book in either. And I never do anything... And I'm on Pon Pon the whole time.... So.... Not getting a good grade.
CSL Computers I made my presentation on Nyan Cat, Totoro, Purple and everything I like when we were supposed to do it on something important (university, school and your future). Ms Lemale always tells me to be quiet because I talk to Yasmin the whole time. And I'm always late! So I could be expecting a "below class average"... >_<
Class We never do anything in this class. During my PLP meeting with Mr Woodbridge I was just talking about how I hate English class with Yasmin. That was very fun.
Sports It's obvious. I'm getting a "fail". But who cares about sports anyway?

So..... Yay! The marking period is over!
Just a little 'something': When I was doing my "Study in Scarlet" portfolio for English I didn't try at all. When I was doing my "To kill a Mockingbird" portfolio I did my best. I got a better grade on the first one...
Today we were "running" the mile (a mile and a half). Well... The others were running, but I was walking. I didn't try at all and I got 14.14. In sixth grade we were only doing one mile. I tried really hard, but my score was worse than my score this year.....
So the moral is.... Don't try....?

Saturday!!!!!!!

Today was the most amazing Saturday ever!
This morning I went shopping with Mum. The weather was nice and warm. Spring finally arrived!
Franny met me at Starbucks. Ten minutes later Yasmin joined us and the three of us started our journey.
We didn't know where to go exactly. The tram to the hospital was number 12 so we went to the train station to find out where it was. The stop ended up being on the main street of the city centre. Without getting a ticket we got into the tram that brought us to a street we've never been too. We had to wait 20 minutes for the other bus to arrive. Carolina was waiting for us at the hospital.
The hospital was the scariest place I've ever been to. Our friend, Marina, was on the second floor in the children-teenagers section. The walls were covered with drawings of animals and other colourful things. There were glass doors along the corridor. Behind one of these doors was Marina's room. As we came up to one of the doors we could see shadows behind it. The glass was tinted so we couldn't see the inside. There was only one place you could look through. Pale children with black circles under their eyes were lifting each other up so one of them could see us. They were like zombies, hungry for us.
Some children had visitors. A pale dark-eyed girl in a dressing gown passed by us. Her parents were talking to her, but she didn't seem to notice them. Another boy was carried in a cage-like cart.
The doctor came out and told us that we were not allowed to visit Marina this week. He took our gifts we brought for her and left.
The four of us took the tram back to the city centre and went to a nearby cafe. The cafe served this hot chocolate that was called Kama Sutra, so we decided to have it (zoum). It had a very strong bitter chocolate taste, a bit of ginger and whipped cream. Yasmin and I also took a big macaron each. It was very good!
After we decided to go "shopping". (I say "shopping" since we didn't have much money and we didn't buy anything.) We visited every single shop: H&M, Benetton, Tally Wejl, Orsay, Pimkie, Promod, Zara and even the Apple Store. We stopped at another cafe to drink some ice tea since we were quite thirsty.
The shops were starting to close because it was already six o'clock. We stopped at a restaurant and had sushi. When we were done it was already dark.
Franny, Yasmin, Carolina and I "climbed up" to the old town. We found a playground and had a lot of fun (yes, we're like 14, but, I mean, come on! Who wouldn't go on the swings!). After that, we went to the Cathedral and took a photo of us in front of it.
We got Carolina home by taking the bus.
Yasmin, Franny and I waited for Yasmin's mum at Starbucks. We didn't get anything, but it was still very fun. We talked about Sports class (running the mile? Oh hell no!), English class (got a bad grade on my essay? Oh hell no!) and CTP4 tests (not missing English or Sports? Oh hell no!). Soon, Yasmin's mum arrived and took us all home!
Today was just.... Awesome!!! I <3 my friends!

English essay!!! Finally!!!

So here is my English essay... Yes, I did it... Finally! I got it over with.... I hope I don't fail like last time (I don't remember if I published my Study in Scarlet one here or not).... I'm glad I finished it today and I'm proud of what I've done... It's not my best, I know....

In the book “To kill a Mockingbird” the reader discovers the world of justice, prejudice, empathy, stereotypes and ignorance through the eyes of a young girl called Scout. Her and her brother Jem are forced to grow up in a very hypercritical community where you are judged upon your appearance and not who you are inside. This essay is going to talk about stereotypes and ignorance towards two innocent people, the ‘mockingbirds’ of the book.

At the beginning of the story we find out about Boo (Arthur) Radley. Scout describes him being “about six-and-a half feet tall”. She says that “he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that's why his hands were bloodstained – if you ate an animal raw, you could never wash the blood off. There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time”.  As the story continues we discover that Boo is the Bogeyman of Maycomb. Legends and rumours are passed on around the community. “A baseball hit into the Radley yard was a lost ball and no questions asked.” This shows us that even the children were afraid of him.

Scout’s attitude towards Arthur doesn’t change until the end of the book. When Boo ‘jumps out’ to save the children, Scout realizes how ignorant she was before. She could have never thought that the ‘bogeyman’ could be an honest person who has feelings and who could risk his own life for the sake of others.

As the story continues, the reader discovers that Tom Robinson, a black man, was accused of raping Mayella Ewell, a young white woman. Even though the Ewells were very poor and were not highly respected in Maycomb, the jury still accuses Tom.

Scout’s father, Atticus is defending the man. He wants to prove the judgmental community that the person’s skin colour doesn’t reflect on their personality. The quote “Yes, suh. I felt sorry for her, she seemed to try more’n the rest of ‘em.” shows us that Tom, as any other person, has the ability to experience pity for others, no matter what race or religion they are. The people in the crowd were shocked by that statement because all of them were taught that “[…] all Negroes lie, that all Negroes are basically immortal beings, that all Negro men are not to be trusted around women.” The statement shows us that the Maycomb community was very stereotypical to black people.

This essay shows that different communities have different attitudes towards certain people. Both, Arthur and Tom, were judged upon their appearance and not their personality. The society of Maycomb would rather insult the person because of their skin colour or habits then accept them the way they are. Scout grows up to understand that no matter how different the person is from the others, you should get to know them before judging them and not be ignorant.

Tears

I don't know who's going to be reading this. I have too much in me now and I can't keep it that way. I have to express it somehow.

Sunday was a beautiful day. The wind was cold, but overall the weather was great.
Mum, Dad and me went to the lake. It was so great two have both of them close to me. I would get the feeling of having a perfect family again. All of us got along so well. We would talk, laugh and discuss things.
After walking along the right side of the lake, we took a boat and crossed to the opposite one. We decided to go to a restaurant in the city centre.
I was very happy.
All of a sudden Mum and Dad started arguing. I don't even know how it started. We were just talking peacefully and it just happened... I didn't want to be involved so I plugged my earphones in and stated listening to Vocaloid. I made the music so loud I couldn't hear anything else.
The song I was listening to ('Last night, good night' by Kaito) ended, I brought my eyes up and saw mum shouting at dad. She got up and left. She was calling for me, but I didn't know what to do. My mouth was open and I took my earphones out.
Dad and I were walking home. Mum was infront of us as if we were not related. It was windy, but I didn't even zip my jacket up. I didn't feel the cold. I felt like the only person in the world.
I was happy to be home. I was looking forward to showing Dad Joe Hisaishi's music, but I didn't have the opportunity to. As soon as we got home, he packed his stuff and shut the front door behind him. I opened it and stood there looking at him, not knowing what to do. Mum ran out and tried opening the elevator door (at our house the elevator has a door with a handle), but it was too late. She put her boots on and ran outside.
I dropped onto my bed and allowed myself to take a deep breath. I let out a loud cry from the deep of my soul. I couldn't understand what was going on with me. My upper lip was shaking and vibrating. I could not know wheather I had sweat or tears on my face. My cries were echoing in the empty appartment.
I sat up and put my arms around my legs. It might have been 5 mins, but to me the moment lasted for ages. I knew that he was never coming back.
I was right.
The door bell rang and I saw Mum at the door. She told me that she was running after him till the end of the street, begging him to stay.
I spent the rest of the evening downloading and listening to music. Mum was crying in her bed.

This morning I did't feel like doing sports. The coaches got mad at me and accused me for not checking my schedule and stuff..... I told them that I couldn't do it. They got even angrier and started talking about me in third person as if I was no where around. If they have the authority, the shouldn't be rude.
In English class, I was very thankful that Miss Manchala let me write the essay for tomorrow, but that's a different story.

When I came home I started doing my English work right away. In two hours I've only done 200 words. None of it made sense because I would always get distracted. At the end, my dad called me on skype. I got very  sad and started crying again. I did not finish it...

I love spring!!!

It was the first of March.
The cats started meowing. The air started being soft and gentle. The conker stands were replaced by ice cream ones.
The spring finally arrived!
School was fun (as usual). Since we don't have Maths or English *puke* on Fridays, it is generally a good day.
In CSL we watched a video about drugs and decided that we want to grow marijuana. The video told us everything about how to grow it and they also said that you get a lot of money from selling it. Just kidding, I don't want to grow it. ;-)
I didn't do anything in Art class. We drew self portraits and I finished mine the week before. I made it all purple and refused to change it when the teacher asked me to. She said that I will loose marks, but I like it the way it is...
Yasmin and I started wandering around the Picasso (art) building. We climbed on top of a chair and could see the other side of the bathroom wall. We were hoping to find a secret room with dead bodies or blood or anything interesting, but instead we found a place where they keep clay creations. After, we found another dark room with a bunch of junk in it.
In science class we went outside and examined different types of soil. It was fun, but, since we didn't have a lot of time, we didn't finish it.
After school, Yasmin and I went to the Cervin auditorium, played piano, did the cup song and listened to Vocaloid (and, since it is our tradition, the nipple song).
Simply Theatre was unusual. Most of the people weren't there so we made a lip dub music video. Sonyasmin scared people away by closing themselves in dark studios.
The most exciting thing happened after Simply.
MY DAD IS HERE!!!! YAY!!!
Mum and I met him at the airport. I was so happy and excited!!!!
Dad brought me a pink and beige bag, a purple (!!!) purse and something very special. I would tell you what it was, but since everyone (my teachers, for example) has access to this blog, I can't.
Today, the tree of us went to town and Dad bought me the new iPod nano (since my old one broke because of an Indian festival >_<)! It's purple and now I'm listening to music!
My dad's friend was also there since he had to give us Dad's old cello. It sounds and looks so beautiful! It was made in 1804 and is very precious!

I think I'm not going to do any of my homework (although I REALLY have to do my English essay) because I only see my dad a couple of times a year and I don't want to waste my time on it....
Bye!

Doing my english essay.... -_-

Since my dad is coming tomorrow (yay!!!!!!!! party and party and party!!!!!! wooohoooo!!!!!!) I had to do the English essay today... -_-
I came home quite late since I had choir after school today and had to take the bus home.
I sat at the computer and opened a blank Word document. I started writing some crap I could think of at first, but failed every time. This is how it turned out:

I went on Facebook since I didn't have the instructions paper and asked Yasmin for it. I tried to start writing again.
Soon, Yasmin sent me the paper. I was hoping it would help me, but this is what I got (with some corrections in red):
So I decided to do the essay another day.... -_-

Sweet Revenge!
Yasmin asked me to send her 'Problem Solving'!

It was a long time ago

So all this talk of 'stereotypes' in English class makes me think if this one story that happened on Halloween. I realized I haven't talked about it before so I am going to, now.
This year, for Halloween, me and my friends went trick-or-treating. None of us cared about what it actually meant. We just wanted the candy.
The people who we came across were very interesting. Most of them didn't know what trick-or-treating was. Only the two indian families we saw knew the real meaning of it.
Some people say that stereotyping different nationalities is racist and mean. I would agree with it at some point, but what we saw that night was an exception.
I remember that at one point we came across a floor that smelled like rice and fish. The smell was coming from an apartment with an Asian name on it. As the door opened, we could smell the rice an the Chinese food even more. And, of course, the people who inhabited the apartment were also very stereotypical. Their shoes were outside the door and inside the house they were wearing white socks. Sorry, but that is so Asian....
Next, we came across an Arab family. The door was opened by a scary looking man in a long.... How do you call that?
The Russian family was not there, but their dog was. As soon as we rang the door bell, the dog jumped on the door and started barking like a wild animal.
The Turkish men was listening to this annoying Turkish music.
But that wasn't it!
The funniest and the most stereotypical ones were, of course, the indians! An old woman in a green sari, a nose piercing and a red dot on her forehead, opened the door. Their apartment smelled of spices and this indian perfume thing that gives me a headache. I think the women was confused, so she called her husband. The men had a beer belly and a tank top on. He was very smelly and sweaty. I think he had a mustache too, but I do not remember. After a while the whole family was standing in front of us and we were just like 'Candy...?'
We saw many other stereotypical families that night, but I do not remember all of them.
That was a very interesting experience for all of us... Looking back at it is very funny.
