I decided to increase the popularity of my blog by doing anime reviews at least once a month.
Name: "The Sunday without God" or "Kami-sama no Inai Nichiyōbi"
Directed by: Yuji Kamazawa
Number of episodes: 13
Rate: 9/10
The anime is set in a fictional world that God has abandoned 15 years ago. People stopped dying and giving birth. Even if their bodies were severely damaged, they would continue living their lives as "the dead". After some time, their bodies would rot and they would start to loose their human characteristics and personality. Before leaving Earth, God has created mysterious creatures called "gravekeepers". Only the gravekeepers could burry the dead and put them to rest.
The main character, a 12-year-old girl Ai Astin, is the gravekeeper of her village. Since her mother died when Ai was only five, she lives with Tony and Anna who take care of her. One day Ai discovers that all the villagers were shot by an immortal man called Hampnie Hambart who ends up being her father. He explains that all the villagers were actually dead. Since Ai has nowhere to go she continues the journey with her "new" father. Hampnie accuses Ai of being a fake gravekeeper since real gravekeepers appear out of nowhere and have no emotions. He introduces Scar, a real gravekeeper with beautiful purple hair. The three of them come to a conclusion that Ai is half gravekeeper, half human (she was conceived three years after children stopped being born).
Hampnie gets killed and Ai continues her journey with his childhood friend Yuri Sakuma Dmitriyevich. Her goal is to save the world.
Kiriko Zubereska, a 15-year-old boy with blue hair, is found asleep at the back seat of Yuri's car. He is from Ortus, the city of the dead. Ai says that she wants to see the city and the four of them decide to stay there for a few nights.
Ulla is the princess of Ortus. She is also known as the Idol of Murder since whoever she touches or looks at immediately dies. Kiriko is her teacher. Ulla doesn't know about her special power since everyone in her city is dead. When Ai tells her that, she isn't very surprised since she knew that everyone was trying to hide something from her.
Ai is forced to go to an unusual school for children with special abilities. One of her classmates is blind, but can "see" the world using sound, the other can breathe underwater. The students are not allowed to leave the school even when they become adults. They decide to escape.
Alis, Ai's classmate, tells her about the world of Class 3-4 that was frozen in time. Yuri, Scar, and Dee (a ghost-whitch) decide to help him save his small world. They arrive into an abandoned city and enter the "frozen" world through a portal. Ai becomes a member of Class 3-4 and discovers the strange events that caused time to stop. Dee tells her that she has been destroying all of Alis's clues so that he never gets to save the world of Class 3-4. She says that 15 years ago she fell out of the window to her death and the whole class wished for it not to happen. Their wish came true and nobody noticed that the time loop went on for many years. If Alis was to save the world Dee would die...
Since the anime ends on a cliffhanger it leaves you thinking and analyzing the story. It brings up a lot of philosophical themes and makes you wonder about the idea of the existence of god. It shows that everything (events, people, etc) has a good and a bad side to it and how simple things can lead to serious consequences.
The story line is very interesting to follow although some of the events don't have an explanation or reason.
I would recommend it to those who are deep thinking and enjoy fiction and supernatural stories.
Oooooooh that sounds really interesting!!! Gonna watch it!! Is it still streaming? Bc I would be so frustrated if the cliffhanger really was the end xD
ReplyDeleteNo. That was the end of season one. But the manga is still in progress so there might be a season two!!!
